BALDWIN – It will be the final regular-season home game on Thursday for the Baldwin Panthers basketball teams.

Baldwin has added a varsity girls game vs. Pentwater at 4:30 on Thursday at home before the JV and varsity boys games. It will be senior/parent night.

The Panthers varsity team enters the game at 19-1 and is ranked No. 5 in the state for Division 4 teams by the  Associated Press.

“We don't discuss the rankings too much since we really don't have much control over those types of things, but it is an honor to be thought of as one of the better teams in our division this year,” Baldwin coach JJ Eads said. “The season is going quite well, we were bummed that a few of our players had to transfer before the season (and last year)  but the players have responded with putting in the work and may have surprised some people this year.

“We have received many compliments about our defense and that is something we take pride in and will continue to work on, if we ever get to practice. Our last practice was last Tuesday due to weather and school being shut down. Our conference is very competitive this year so it means a lot to win the league outright this year. Beating really good teams like Mesick and Marion twice is a big deal and everyone else. It's very hard to do with so many league games.”

Pentwater has a 9-11 record.

“Pentwater is one of the hottest teams in the league right now, winning seven of its last eight games so it will be a challenge this week and it's a possible matchup in the district as well,” Eads said. “They are athletic and can run the floor well and put up some points. They play different types of zones so that is something we'll have to be ready for.

“We want to send out our seniors (Carmelo Lindsey and Konnor Gorman) with a win for their last regular season home game and for us going into the district.”
