BALDWIN — Volleyball practices officially open on Aug. 8, but coach Duane Roberts has been having his players in the gym during the summer to get in as much preseason time as possible.

Roberts had three of his varsity players on Tuesday and he also had two former players, Riley Drilling and April See, helping out during a two-hour practice session inside the elementary school gym. The high school was being used for another activity.

Arienna Boatwright, Jennika Cook and Jas Johnson were among the players participating in volleyball action.

“We’re going to go the whole week from 3 to 5,” Roberts said. “Next week, we’ll go on those days too.”

The first day of practice is Aug 8. The week before will be a dead period as teams prepare for their official practice time.

Drilling is among the key graduated losses for the Panthers from last year’s volleyball team. She was also a skier and a pitcher for the softball team.
