Troutarama softball tournament is canceled
BALDWIN - If there's not going to be a Troutarama, then there can't be a softball tournament.
This is the conclusion Troutarama Softball Tournament director Curt Gravatt came to when it was announced last week Troutarama would be canceled because of the COVID 19 issue.
Gravatt confirmed earlier this week there will be no softball tournament.
The decision was contingent on not having a Troutarama.
"(Softball) has always been one of the events at Troutarama," Gravatt said.
A week ago, Gravatt had seven teams set to come.
"Teams were looking to come and play because so many things have canceled because of this COVID stuff," Gravatt said. "But my plans are to do the Labor Day weekend (softball tournament)."
Gravatt said the highest number of teams he's had at a Troutarama Tournament has been 16.
The Labor Day tournament at one time drew as many as 32 teams in one year.
"Softball was the in sport, everyone was playing it," Gravatt said. "Now leagues all over the place are down. Kids coming out of school are going off and doing other things."
The Labor Day tournament, which uses the double-double elimination format, goes Friday that weekend at Hollister Park and ends on Sunday.
