Pollard off to strong start for Panthers

BALDWIN — Malik Pollard has been putting up impressive numbers on offense lately for the Baldwin boys basketball team. But that’s not where the Panther basketball standout considers to be the strongest part of his game.

“It’s been defensively,” he said. “I’ve been trying to deny a good shot and also being aggressive.”

Pollard considers his best shot to be from mid-range. To be a better shooter, Pollard indicates he needs to be more patient and not force his shot.

With the graduation of Da’Ron Copeland, the Panthers don’t quite have a pure 3-point shooter this winter, Pollard said, but they continue to focus on that area of their game.

Pollard and his teammates spent some time over the holidays keeping their basketball skills sharp. But the Panthers have had less than 10 players on their roster so far this season and all players need to be in positive physical shape, Pollard added.

Baldwin is home Thursday for a critical West Michigan D League contest. Playing good defense will be among the key factors for the 5-0 Panthers to continue to have success, Pollard indicated.
