Pine River softball player ends prep career

LEROY -- Pine River's softball team got in a week of practice before the season was suspended and eventually canceled.

But senior second baseman and pitcher Daria Lindquist was set to have a bright season and can still look forward to a promising 2021 campaign.

Lindquist was looking forward to the season and expected to be among the Bucks' top players.

"Daria will be one of the captains this year," Pine River coach Mike Nelson said prior to the start of the season

This past fall, he was on the boys-girls soccer team. Pine River doesn't have a girls sport in the spring but has girls, such as Lindquist, playing with the boys team in the fall.

Lindquist is a versatile athlete who also played other sports.

She was credited by her coach, Dave Fisher for outstanding defensive play in the team's first win of the season against Burt Lake's boys soccer team,

Lindquist was also a senior on the girls basketball team, which finished at 6-15.

The Bucks were coached by first-year skipper Paula Justin, who was Paula Peterson as an all-stater back in the 1980s for the Bucks. She helped her team be extremely competitive by the end of the season.

The Bucks got to the district finals last year and finished with a 17-15 record.
