Palmer set to be strong thrower for Baldwin track team

BALDWIN — Baldwin’s track team is getting ready to open its season later this month, and one of the key performers for the Panthers is expected to be Maleke Palmer in the throws.

Palmer again will be throwing the shot put and discus, as he did for the Panthers last season.

The shot put is his best throw.

“I threw 40 feet when I was a junior, and now I plan on throwing at 45 because I look on the internet because you have to throw 45 feet or higher to go to state,” Palmer said. “I need to work out and have determination. I have to push.”

A key to having success will be technique, Palmer said.

“If my technique is good, it will fly,” he said.

“I love it better than discus,” he said. “Anybody can throw a discus, but a lot of people can’t throw a shot.”

Palmer hopes to throw the discus at least 70 feet.

“It’s all about technique,” he said.

Palmer is the only thrower on the team.

“I work out almost every day,” he said.
