Nichols set to play football at Olivet

BALDWIN  —  Damon Nichols isn’t ready to put an end to his sports career quite yet.

The four-sport athlete at Baldwin said this month that he will be playing football at Olivet College, an NCAA Division III member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Nichols was an all-conference football standout at wide receiver for a Baldwin team which went to the Division 8 regional final this season.

For four seasons, Nichols was a favorite target for all-state quarterback Brandon Childress, who will be playing football at Central Michigan.

Nichols decided on Olivet earlier in the spring.

“I had kind of a lot of options,” he said. “I had Albion, Olivet, Davenport University. I visited Olivet and it felt like home. I had a great connection with coaches. It’s like Baldwin, not a big town. It feels like home. They have a great football program. I’m glad to be a part of it.”

Plans are for Nichols to play at wide receiver. He indicated he’ll go there in June and he’s looking to bulk up.

“They pass the ball a lot,” he indicated.

Nichols had considered a college football career for a long time.

“I had a dream since I was 6 years old, me and Brandon, college, and wide receiver,” Nichols said. “I was always thinking of it.”

Nichols also ran track and has played baseball and basketball at Baldwin.
