BALDWIN — Baldwin’s football team is expected to pass the ball more this season and if that’s the case, junior wide receiver Damon Nichols is ready.

Nichols played varsity in both his freshman and sophomore seasons.

“We improved a lot and went to the playoffs,” he said. “I improved as a sophomore. This year, I’m looking to do a lot better.”

He’ll be a linebacker on defense. Nichols said wide receiver is his favorite position.

“I like getting the ball in my hands and seeing what I can do with it,” he said. “We should be passing the ball more this year. Our running game is good too.”

He and quarterback Brandon Childress have a good relationship.

“We know what each other is doing,” Nichols said, adding that possession and route running are his strengths as a receiver, and reading and coverage is his strength as a linebacker

Baldwin had some summer 7-on-7 passing camps that were helpful, Nichols noted.

The season starts Aug. 29 at Hale.
