BALDWIN — Ben Ridderman and Rand Lauritzen live on Big L Lake near Baldwin, but sometimes, their favorite residence is Marquette Trails Country Club.

That’s where they play their Thursday night golf in the local men’s league. They’ve played 16 years at the course. Ridderman‘s best score at the course for nine holes has been a 38.

“We’re here just to have fun,” Ridderman said. “But there are some good golfers in it.”

His short game has been Ridderman’s No. 1 strength.

He plays golf when he spends the winter in Lakeland, Fla. But playing at Marquette Trails is a special experience for Ridderman.

“The greens and the upkeep is wonderful,” Ridderman said, adding that besides league play on Thursdays “we play at other times. The course is in wonderful shape.”

Rand Lauritzen lives four houses from Ridderman. He’s played in the leagues at Marquette for 15 years.

“We usually come out Tuesdays and play 18,” he said.

Lauritzen’s best round has been a 42 on the back nine.

The back nine is the toughest because of the greens, he indicated. The greens make it so unique.

“They’re quite tricky,” Lauritzen said.

Thursday night golf is all about having fun.

“The guys here are a lot of fun,” he said.
