BALDWIN — DaShawn Moore is set to display his track and field abilities for the Baldwin Panthers whenever the schedule and weather will allow it.

A sophomore, Moore is in his first year in track. He’s looking to run as a sprinter in the 200 and perhaps the long jump. There’s likely to be other events for Moore.

“I need to work on getting faster for football season so I can get ready for that,” he said.

Right now, Moore is not zeroing in on specific goals.

“I’m looking for the best possible time,” he said.

Moore, as a sprinter, is confident in his starting, accelerating and finishing abilities. But he wants to work on everything. Right now, he’s not quite sure if the 100 or 200 will be his best event.

Entering this week, the Panthers hadn’t had an outdoor meet yet and had limited practice time outdoors.

“It doesn’t stop me from working out and trying to get the inside stuff, like lifting weights, done,” Moore said.

He also expects to do well for the Panthers in the long jump. Moore also figures on being in the sprint relays and has high hopes in that area.

The name of the game now is improvement and Moore, like his other linemates, hope to be at their best when regionals come so they can qualify for the state finals.

The Panthers are scheduled to be at West Michigan D League jamborees April. 23 at Onekama, April 30 at Brethren and May 7 at Custer-Mason County Eastern. The conference meet is May 21 at MCE. Medal meets are set for April 26 at Mesick, May 2 at Beal City and May 3 at Brethren. The regionals are May 16 or 17 at Saugatuck.
