Mooney set for another sports season

BALDWIN — This is the transitional period for athletes going from winter to spring sports.

It was a double-sport season in the winter for senior Nicole Mooney who bowled and played basketball.

The girls season ended in the regionals. The Panthers just barely fell short in their hopes for state finals.

“For girls team event, we came in fourth place,” Mooney said. “We came in fourth place, we were 50 pins away from third at regionals. The top three (go to state). We came close. Individually, we didn’t do too bad, but none of us (qualified) for state.”

It was still a productive season for the Baldwin bowling team. Mooney was among the top players throughout the season.

“We’re losing a lot of seniors this year,” Mooney said. “This year was pretty good. Hopefully, enough girls show interest for next year.”

It was her third year on the varsity, and was her best year, Mooney indicated.

Mooney also played for the Baldwin basketball team and is tentatively set for play for the softball squad this spring.
