Mesick too much for Baldwin

MESICK — It wasn’t Baldwin’s night.

The Panthers, still struggling from health issues, fell to 1-2 at Mesick on Friday 54-8 in 8-player football. The host Bulldogs entered the game at 0-2 after losing to Central Lake and Webberville.

This week, coach Bob Watkins didn’t have practice on Monday, with players watching game film only. He was hoping the day off would give his team more time to heal from Friday’s game.

“We had some more injuries,” Watkins said. “At one point, we only went with seven players. We had a kid who came back in the game for us, so we ended the game with eight.”

“We thought we had Ryan (Kolenbrander) back,” Watkins said of his No. 1 quarterback. “A couple of plays into it he found out that he couldn’t go. We gave him more time off.”

Blake Dockery remains out with injuries.

“We’re definitely hurting when it comes to the skill spots,” Watkins said. “Going into the game, we felt we had a chance. We felt a little better when we thought we had Ryan back. It didn’t manifest itself.”

Armondo Jennings scored Baldwin’s lone touchdown.
