McDonald gives Baldwin critical inside force

BALDWIN — Deondra McDonald will be the tallest player on the court for the Baldwin Panthers and hopes to be a force in the middle for the boys basketball team this season.

He’s in his junior season after seeing some varsity action last winter.

“I’ll be a rebounder and power forward,” McDonald said. “Coach said he’ll move me out to the wing a little bit.”

McDonald looks to shoot outside and inside.

“I’ll do whatever it takes to get the W,” he said.

At 6-foot-3, McDonald said he’ll be the team’s tallest player. Brandon Beane and Amondo Jennings also are expected to give the team some height.

McDonald expects this will be a team that goes up and down the court in a hurry.

“We have put in so much work,” McDonald said. “We came into the season behind the 8-ball. We haven’t been together all the summer. We put in so much work that we felt we’ve caught back up to par.”

McDonald is looking to help the team score.

“We can win a lot of ballgames,” he said. “As long as we box out and do our jobs, we’ll win a lot. The goal is to go to the Breslin Center (for the state finals). It will take us a little bit to get our chemistry down. But when we get it down, we’ll be a pretty good ball team.”
