McDonald, Panthers ready for upcoming games

BALDWIN  — Deondra McDonald is encouraged with his Baldwin boys basketball team’s 4-0 start, but wants to see the Panthers get even better in upcoming games.

The Panthers resume action on Thursday at Mason County Eastern in West Michigan D League play.

“It’s been going good,” he said. “We’ve been working hard. We had a little bit of a revelation over the break against Buckley in a scrimmage. We had been content to where we’re at. But now we are back at it and are working hard.”

The Panthers played well in all of the first four games, McDonald indicated. He is among the top returning players from a district championship team from last season.

“They’re all good when you win,” he said. “I’m more of a leader this year, working on getting people in the right spots.”

He’s also been working on driving with authority to the basket, which has been his strength in past seasons.

The Panthers have 16 regular-season games remaining within the next two months including three contests next week. Maintaining an even pace mentally and physically will be critical, McDonald admitted, for the team to continue to have success.

“We have to be prepared for every game,” he said.

The Panthers stayed active with two scrimmages and various practices during the three-week holiday break.
