BALDWIN — Daniel McCarthy is a senior and was all over the field for the Baldwin Panthers on Friday in their 70-0 eight-player football victory over Grand Traverse Academy to open the season.

McCarthy played at tight end and linebacker against Grand Traverse and also saw some quarterback duty late in the game.

“We played really good,” he said. “We had a very good game tonight. We came out and took advantage of our opportunities.

McCarthy was on last year’s team when Baldwin played 11-man and faced a more formidable overall schedule.

“It feels good, since last year we didn’t do very good and went 1-8,” he said. “This year, 8-man is different. We played it in junior high. It feels pretty good.”

McCarthy said he’s on the field to make plays. He’s confident in his abilities to make tackles.

“We want to take the (West Michigan D League) championship,” he said.
