BALDWIIN – Marquette Trails golf pro Doc Huzel is getting ready for a popular event at the golf course.

The Big Hole tournament is on Aug. 29. The cups are an inch and a half bigger, making them a six-inch hole.

A bigger cup cutter is used to provide for the bigger hole. It’s an 18-hole tournament.

“Last year we had 36 three-man teams,” Huzel said. “It’s basically men. There were two women last year who played.”

Even though the hole is bigger scores don’t necessarily go down.

“It’s fun to play but you miss it just like with a regular hole,” Huzel said. “We get a lot of outsiders. They find out from our website.”

Another tournament is set for late September.

There was one rainout two weeks ago in the Thursday night men’s league. The women are on Tuesday and there’s a Wednesday men’s league.
