Luther Little League team ends season on high note

LUTHER — The season has ended for the Luther Little League 10-12-year-old baseball team. But it ended on a memorable note.

The Luther team, at home, ended at 8-3, following a 15-14 win over Lake City recently.

“They won every game until they played us,” said Luther coach Larry Lucas. “That was a good thing.”

Luther fell behind but rallied and won in the last inning.

“It was a good game,” Lucas said. “It was back and forth.”

Sasha Hoffman and Rob Steele were among the top hitters on the team. Sam Lucas was among the top pitchers on the team. All the players contributed, Larry Lucas noted.

“(Lake City) came there and was ribbing us on how they were going to whip us,” Lucas said. “It was quite a game. (Lake City) did not like it.”

Luther had the 10-12-year-old team plus a T-Ball squad.

For next year “I hope we get more,” Lucas said. “We should have had more teams this year. Everybody that signed up was late. By the time the season started, people wanted to sign up. I hope to gain a team next year.”

Lucas figures Luther will have enough players for a 13-14-year-old Pony League team next season. This year, Luther played teams from LeRoy,  Tustin, Lake City and Marion.
