Local sled dog races rescheduled for Feb. 27-28

BALDWIN  — The sled dog races slated for this weekend at Stearns Siding have been rescheduled for Feb. 27-28.

The rescheduling took place “due to rain and warm temps in the forecast,” local contact Linda Lange said.

The races are the Mid-Union Sled Haulers (MUSH) Sweetwater Challenge. The race will be sponsored by Thunderfeet Kennel and Sleds. Officials note the club is amateur in nature, emphasizing sportsmanship, fun and family participation.

The schedule calls for drivers meeting the weekend of the race, at 9:30 p.m. Friday. The first mid-distance team is out at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Race chairpersons are Ted and Ann Nelson who can be reached at (231) 937-6683.

Lange also presented a form for the Great Lakes Sled Dog Association race set for Jan. 2-3, which she mentioned has been switched to the makeup date of March 5-6, also at Stearns Siding. GLSDA membership is required and ISDRA rules will apply. Available groups are all breed, 10, 6 and 4 dog and 2 dog skijoring, plus registered breed 6 and 4 dog and sport 6 and 4 dog. Drivers can only enter one team per class.

The entry chairperson is Annie Hammond who can be contacted at (517) 348-2737.
