Little League practices start in three divisions

BALDWIN — Little League season has arrived.

The Lake County 4-H office has set up three divisions for Little League baseball this summer.

The 10-15-year-old division is practicing Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays.

“We’re just practicing (at Hollister Park) now until we can get an actual schedule for game time,” Seth Hopkins of the Lake County Extension office said.

The 7-to-9 age group, which will be coach pitch, is Mondays and Wednesdays at Hollister. The T-Ball League is Tuesday and Thursday. All practices start at 5:30 for all levels. T-Ball goes for an hour, while the others extend for 90 minutes.

The T-ball and coach-pitch leagues are boys and girls while Little League is mainly boys, although there also are some girls who are playing.

Last year, there were two Little League teams.

“We’re pretty close to that again,” Hopkins said. “We haven’t decided. As we go though practice, sometimes participation falls off.”

Baldwin will play Fountain, Riverton, Custer and Scottville.

The total participation is 75 to 80. The league plays until late June.

Bill Buckley is coaching the Little League team. Lee Moore and Leroy Lewis also are coaching.

“It’s going good,” Buckley said. “We have about 23. We’re not sure If we’re going to have two teams yet or not.”

Practices right now are covering all aspects of the game, he said.

“We have several pitchers,” Buckley said.
