BALDWIN -- Ian Lemieux was named offensive lineman of the year for the Baldwin 8-player football team at its banquet on Oct. 30.

"When we needed the yards we'd run behind Ian," coach Bob Watkins said.

It was Lemieux's junior season.

A senior, Darrion Hayter, was named defensive lineman of the year.

"When he got down low, no one could handle him," Watkins said. "He was tough to handle up front."

Most improved honors went to Adam McClure

"He was a sophomore and we put him at center," Watkins said. "He had to get the ball to the quarterback. He got progressively better as the season went on."

Linebacker Dylan Hibma also received recognition.

Each honored player except Hayter, who graduated will be returning next season Watkins said, adding the players will be encouraged to spend more time in the weight-lifting and conditioning building north of the football field.

"We have a tremendous group of eighth graders coming up as freshmen," Watkins said. "Our goal will also be to have a JV team."
