BALDWIN - Fishing experts in the Baldwin area are thinking there may be the start of some salmon fishing activity soon in the area.

Doug Loomis, of Ed's Sport Shop in Baldwin noted anglers are using wax worms, crawlers, leeches and minnows.

"That's from what people who came in here (Friday)," Loomis said. "It changes every day. Wax worms and leeches seem to be more popular."

"Fishing is pretty good right now," Jared Switzer, of Pere Marquette River Lodge, said. "(Water) temps are down right now. The water is not too high. We did get some rain this past week. Night time fishing has been good and hopper fishing has been excellent."

Leo Cook of Baldwin Bait & Tackle agreed.

"Trout fishing has been OK," he said. "We're just waiting on the salmon now. We have another month or so. I've been on the river. I haven't been on the lakes lately. Hopper fishing has been good for trout on the Pere Marquette."
