Johnson disappointed with cancellation of track season
B ALDWIN -- Jenna Johnson placed eighth in the state as a freshman in the track and field 100-meter dash for Baldwin.
This season was her senior year and she was hoping to place higher.
But the season was suspended and later canceled by the MHSAA because of the conoravirus issue.
"I didn't like at all," Johnson said. "I'm very sad I can't finish my senior year."
Johnson played volleyball in the fall and didn't play basketball with Baldwin only having a girls JV team. She focused on the track team during the winter. She had been hoping to get a personal best in the 100 and finishing higher than eighth place. The 100 had been her best event and she was figuring on also running the 200 and wanted to get a personal best.
"If I have a good start, I feel that I run well," she said.
Johnson will now determine what college she'll attend and she's working to stay in shape. Whether she'll play volleyball or run track is undecided.
"I'd like to do both if I can," Johnson said.
Siena Heights has offered her a scholarship to run track. It's the only one in Michigan which has contacted her.
She hopes to make a decision soon.
After four years in Baldwin, "I'll miss bonding with my team and having fun," Johnson said.
