BALDWIN — Jenna Johnson is ready for season No. 3.

After excelling for the girls volleyball team during the fall season as a junior, Johnson played for the junior varsity boys basketball program during the winter. The girls basketball team was canceled for lack of numbers.

The JV team ended up around the .500 mark.

“It was a good experience for me to learn to play with different people,” Johnson said on Monday prior to the first day of track practice. “I got used to it.”

The 2019-20 season is up in the air although athletic department officials have indicated their goal is to have a JV girls team. There’s a chance Johnson could wind up playing for the varsity boys team, which had two girls on this year’s squad.

But Johnson said the decision will be made when the time comes. She left open the possibility of playing summer basketball.

This will mark Johnson’s third season of varsity track. She was eighth in the state as a freshman in the 100-meter dash.

“I’ve been walking and running over the break,” she said. “I want to run the 100. You need to work on it and don’t give up.”
