Government Lake takes over in first place

BALDWIN — The race continues to heat up in the Baldwin Men’s Softball League.

Government Lake in Tuesday night action defeated M-37 Meat Shack 17-14 and then defeated the Baldwin Bowling Center 20-13.

Government Lake and Meat Shack both had 5-1 records.

In other action, H&H defeated Baldwin Bowling Center and fell to the Meat Shack. Those scores were not available.

Meat Shack has two losses while H&H has three losses. Government Lake, at 7-1, has sole possession of first place.

The game between Government Lake and Meat Shack went down to the wire, said league official and Government Lake player Curt Gravatt.

“It was a battle,” Gravatt said. “(Meat Shack) had a 10-spot going into the sixth inning. We cut the lead in half and came back with a big inning the top of the seventh.”

Games continue next week. Four teams play two doubleheaders each week with action starting 6:30 p.m. at Hollister Park. The regular season goes to the end of July, followed by tournaments. Troutarama tournament action starts the weekend of July 18. Games take place all weekend

“We’re shooting on 16 teams,” Gravatt said. “Last year we had 15, but we’re trying to get it back to 16.”
