BALDWIN  —  Makayla George is making progress on her way to full physical health.

George was a standout for Baldwin in volleyball, basketball, softball and track. She struggled through an anterior cruciate ligament injury on her right knee during a large part of her senior season.

She had surgery on June 15.

“They reconstructed my ACL,” she said. “I ended up tearing my meniscus as well, so they fixed that.”

George elected during her season to continue to play sports and have the surgery in June. But she acknowledges that the injury hampered her performance.

“It was a very successful surgery,” George said. “Around eight to nine months, I should be able to start back.”

She’s planning on attending Eastern Michigan University. She’s also keeping her options open on sports.

“I’ll watch them throughout the year and see which team I might be able to fit in with,” she said.

George said she hasn’t had discussions yet with coaches.

“I wanted to go to a college that was big, but not too big,” she said. “I thought Eastern was perfect for that.”

She’ll be going to Eastern in August to start her college academic career.
