Fishing guides finding plenty of work
BALDWIN – It’s been a long challenging year for fishing guides but Frank Willetts of the Pere Marquette River Lodge likes where things are at right now.
“Things are doing pretty good,” he said. “Steelhead season is going pretty good. Christmas shopping is doing all right.”
As cold as it gets this time of year, Willetts said he still gets a lot of clients.
“We have a lot of regular clients that come who are hardcore steelheaders,” he said. “People come from as far away as Chicago, Indiana, Ohio, New York.”
Even during the holidays, Willetts keeps busy.
“We’re actually looking for help,” he said. “We have four shop employees, nine guides and two maintenance men and we’re looking for a couple more shop employees.”
The future for 2021 looks bright, Willetts said.
“I think it’s going to be really good as people are looking for things to do and they’ll come out and go cross country skiing, snowmobiling and steelhead fishing,” Willetts said.
