BALDWIN — Da’Ron Copeland has been among the former Baldwin basketball players giving back to his former school by working with Panther players during the summer.

Former athletic director Shawn Williams secured the services of Copeland and other former Baldwin players to work with high school athletes during the summer.

Copeland was a standout football, basketball and baseball player and bowler at Baldwin.

“We’re helping the kids work out, that kind of stuff,” he said, indicating it’s been on an informal basis. “My hopes are that I can be there during the whole summer. I also have to be doing some work and stuff.”

The plans were for sessions to be three times a week. But the transition in coaches and administrators have made many of the plans tentative.

“When it’s just me, I go through a lot of shooting and dribbling skills and have them work on the fundamentals of the game,” Copeland said. “I want to help them grow as people and teammates.”

He’s been attending Michigan State University.
