Clugston switches sports to join Baldwin bowling team
BALDWIN — It’s never too late to try something new.
Just ask Alan Clugston.
The Baldwin senior is on the bowling team for the first time this winter. He’s also been in football, basketball and baseball.
“I’ve bowled by myself, but I’ve never bowled on a team before,” he said. “I thought the change would be fun this year.”
Clugston made his bowling debut earlier this month at Baldwin Bowling Center.
“My first game was pretty bad,” he said. “The second game, a 175, I’ve done better. I know I can do better in areas, just hitting the mark and making sure the (hook) works. I throw a curve. I have to make sure I do it right and get into a rhythm, making sure it’s a competitive rhythm I get in.”
Clugston invited other athletes, including Brandon Childress, Damon Nichols and Maverick Fisher, to bowl on the team. All three are currently on the basketball team and also play football and baseball.
“I just asked them and they came to practice,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun. Brandon has had years of experience, he’s pretty good. Maverick is pretty good too. Damon played in the ninth grade.”
