CHASE – Howie Lodholtz lives in Chase and is among the area’s most active ice fishermen.

“I was over at PM Lake in Ludington on Wednesday,” Lodholtz said. “Be careful. The water current over there is a part of Lake Michigan coming in. They’ve lost a lot of ice. We were there Saturday and then again on Tuesday and it went that fast.”

The ice fishing season, Lodholtz said, “started out real good, but its slowed,” he said. “I caught a few yesterday and a few Saturday. It’s been slow but we’re catching a few few.”

When ice fishing ends for Lodholtz, he’ll start scouting turkeys for the upcoming hunting season.

“We’ll probably have a bunch of us at a squirrel camp in mid-March,” Lodholtz said. “We do that for fun.”

Lodholtz’s brother Lyle is also an active sportsman and lives in Reed City.

Howie noted the eight-week shooting league at the Reed City Sportsman Club has started

with 18 trap teams and a good number of skeet teams. There’s five shooters on each team.

“We shoot on Saturday and Sunday,” Lodholtz said.
