Chase bowler enjoys her sport at 83
CHASE — June Davis lives in Chase but enjoys spending time at the Baldwin Bowling Center where she goes every Wednesday morning to compete in the senior citizens league.
The name of the league is Senior Slo Rollers.
Davis has bowled in the league around 15 years. She’ll be 83 in February. She’s been at the Baldwin lanes about 20 years. Davis is originally from the Howard City area. She moved to the Chase area in 1979. Davis also bowls every Friday night at the lanes in Howard City in a mixed league.
Davis has a plaque of bowling in the state tournament for 35 years. She still bowls in that event and also has been in the national tourney 10 years.
“I’ve brought money home from those,” Davis said.
Her highest career game is a 237 and high series is 640.
“I’m doing better,” she said. “I’ve been sick all summer. But I’m doing better now. Once in awhile I’ll bowl in the summer.”
Davis said it’s not just the sport she enjoys, but also the competition. But, it’s not actually overly competitive.
“Everybody cheers for everybody else,” she said.
The minimum age for the league is down to 50, mainly because it has lost some members over the years.
Davis is the oldest member. The numbers are down, though.
“We’re down to six teams this year,” she said. “We usually have eight,”
As long as she stays healthy, Davis said she’ll continue to bowl.
