Cannon set for huge season for Baldwin giris basketball

BALDWIN — Plenty will be expected of Diamond Cannon for Baldwin girls basketball this season and the Panther junior is ready to deliver.

The first day of practices was on Monday,

Cannon played JV and varsity for Baldwin as a freshman. It was exclusively varsity last season and she was among Baldwin’s top players.

Monday’s practice focused on conditioning. There will be several new players, including a new coach.

“We’re running a lot,” Cannon said.

That way, Cannon said, the Panthers will be ready to run a full game.

Cannon anticipates being a shooter and might do more 3-point shooting this season as the opportunity arises. But for any player to avoid being double-teamed on defense, other players need to step up, Cannon said.

There’s plenty of work to be done in the next three weeks, Cannon said. The season starts after Thanksgiving and she’s looking forward to it.

“I’m happy,” she said.
