Cannon hoping to use speed for various positions this season

BALDWIN — Diamond Cannon is a Baldwin sophomore who is hoping to use her speed effectively on the basepaths for Baldwin’s softball team this season.

Cannon also played last year for the Panthers.

“I made a lot of progress,” she said. “Last year I played outfield. This year, I’ll be outfield, catcher and catcher, and maybe first. I have a good glove.”

She’s hoping to be a solid catcher, but is looking at her skills to especially make her a strong player.

When she’s on the mound, Cannon will focus on throwing strikes and gradually increasing her velocity.

As a hitter, Cannon is confident at being able to get base hits and use her speed when she’s on base. She’ll also be in track and is hoping to use her speed in that sport also.

The first game will be April 21 at Walkerville. Seeing some live action will help the team improve.

“I think we can win a whole bunch of games,” she said. “All we have to do is believe we can do it. We have the potential.”
