Bowlers prepare for regional

BALDWIN -- Baldwin's boys bowling team is set for the regional test on Friday and Saturday.

The Panthers' last action was at home on Feb. 15 with conference and singles events. Three of the eight bowlers were in the top five.

Jesse Pancio came in second, Logan Theisen in fourth and Remington Owen came in fifth. Joe Wendlowsky of Crossroads came in first.

Baldwin won conference and the conference team event.

"The regular conference is based on the total points at the end of the regular season," coach Donn Slimmen said. "We have a conference team event where all the teams come to the alley and bowl four baker and two regular games. They take the total pin count from that for the conference team event. It's a tournament with all the conference teams."

The regional tournament is at Eastbrook Lanes in Grand Rapids. Bowlers will attempt to qualify for the state meet on March 6-7. The top three for team event and top 10 for individual event go to state.

"I would say the team has a good chance to qualify for state," Slimmen said. "There's a couple of individuals I believe have a good chance to qualify as well. We'll see how it goes this weekend. They've been doing a lot better as of late. They know it's the end of the season."
