Bowens off to strong start for Baldwin

BALDWIN — Clay Bowens is among the Baldwin players being counted upon to have strong seasons both offensively and defensively as the Panthers bid to repeat as West Michigan D League champs and go to the Division 8 playoffs.

Bowens is a wide receiver and linebacker for the Panthers. He had a catch but also dropped a potential touchdown catch.

The Panthers opened the season with a 46-0 victory over Hale. Bowens was impressed with how the Panthers played offensively, “We need to work on blocking downfield,” he said. “Defensively, we’re all right We need to work on cutting a little bit.”

The Panthers play Friday night at Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart against a perennial playoff team.

“We have to come focused every game,” Bowens said.

It’s his third year on varsity and Bowens is looking to have his best season.
