BALDWIN — Janet Gillette has entered the hole-in-one category at Marquette Trails Golf Club.

The Baldwin resident scored the ace on Friday, Aug. 16, during an informal Friday night couples gathering.

She was playing with her husband, Rich, and some friends, Mel and Lorraine Vandenberg, at No. 7. The hole is 92 yards from the women’s tee.

She used her five hybrid golf club. Gillette didn’t see the ball go in the cup but it was witnessed by one of her friends.

“It hit the green on the left side and rolled,” Gillette said. “I couldn’t actually see it. There was a hill. Lorraine saw it go in. She was on the right-hand side of the tee box. We got up there and it was in. I thought it was kind of a good shot.”

There were smiles, screams and picture taking after that. Gillette played two holes after that and said she did “OK.”

It was her first career hole-on-one although she did come about six inches from it in the past.

Gillette has played regularly at Marquette Trails since 2007. Prior to this, she has played at Kalamazoo for five years about once a week.

Gillette plays three to four times a week. That includes action in the Tuesday night women’s league. There’s an informal scramble on Sundays in which she also participates.
