BALDWIN  — It’s a critical time of summer for Baldwin volleyball coach Duane Roberts.

Practices officially start on Aug. 10, followed by the regular season.

“We’ve been doing some conditioning and getting the bodies into game shape,” Roberts said. “It’s mostly running and making sure footwork is correct and building up leg muscles and making sure form is correct as we get ready for the season.”

Roberts has been having around seven girls at his seven workouts. When practices start, school will be in session under Baldwin’s balanced calendar, and Roberts anticipates having more girls attending the practices.

“My parents meeting is Aug. 9 when I meet with parents and students to go over the rules for the program and go from there,” he said.

Roberts said there’s been a junior varsity program in place the past several years.

“I’m anticipating a JV and varsity,” he said. “I’ll be very young. I’d say 16 is a good number to expect to come out. We’ll be young but we’ll practice so we can be ready to play and work on building the program.”

Baldwin will also have junior high volleyball.
