BALDWIN — Area volleyball teams were extremely busy this summer in getting ready for a practice season which started on Wednesday.

This includes coach Duane Roberts’ program at Baldwin, where players such as Jennika Cook, who will be a sophomore, have been putting in some net time during recent weekends.

Cook said she’s been playing some volleyball during the summer and plays all-around for the Panthers. Serving has been her strength.

She’s also confident with her serve receive talents and getting ball to the setter. Focusing and being ready is critical. She’s confident with her hands on the ball.

“They’ll have a good team,” former athletic director Shawn Williams said. “They have a lot of returning players, and they’ve been playing together for awhile.”

This factor, Cook agreed, will help the team be competitive in the West Michigan D League.

The Panthers will start their season at the Buckley Bear Invitational on Aug. 31, followed by the Northern Michigan Christian Invitational on Sept. 7, a dual at Bear Lake on Sept. 12 and the Pentwater Invitational on Sept. 16. The first home match is on Sept. 19 with Pentwater.
