BALDWIN - The official volleyball practice season is slated to start on Aug. 12 with the regular season beginning a few weeks later for the Baldwin Panthers.

But whether or not this will be the schedule within a week or two when the MHSAA makes it all official remains to be seen.

In the meantime, volleyball coach Duane Roberts is hopeful of giving his players some summer workouts as sports teams continue to deal with restrictions from the COVID pandemic.

"Football is starting its workouts and volleyball will start later this week," Roberts said on Monday. "We're taking it day by day because we're not for sure which way the state wants to go, as far as if there will be sports and which sports will be played in the fall.

"I know there's been chatter of softball and baseball being played during the fall and football (and volleyball) flipping to the spring. It's an unknown venture at this point."

His players have been working out on their own at home, Roberts noted, "until we can formally be out under social distancing guidelines.

"I know a few of them have been working on individual skills as well," he said.
