BALDWIN — The postseason begins next week for the Baldwin Panthers.

The Class D district consists of Baldwin, Brethren, Custer-Mason County Eastern, Manistee Catholic Central, Pentwater and Walkerville.

Baldwin plays Brethren at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Panthers are coming off a strong fourth-place performance in the nine-team West Michigan D league tournament on Oct. 18.

The girls really showed up good,” Coach Bob Hilts said. “It finally came together. We played good defense. We were very very close to even knocking Crossroads out. There were a couple of bad breaks on our side. We were close to beating them It was 28-26, 25-23. We were in there the whole way.”

Crossroads won the league tournament.

“I am so looking forward to districts,” Hilts said.

The schedule did not have any matches set for last week or this week. But Baldwin was slated to have a scrimmage Monday at Walkerville, Hilts was also hoping to have one on Thursday, most likely on the road. His goal is to keep having the team play from home to get ready for away districts.

“I want to do it away,” he said. “Let’s win on the road. That’s the only way you can win districts. You have to do it on the road.”
