BALDWIN — It’s football season, yes, but also it’s that time of year that volleyball athletes get ready for the fall campaign.

Baldwin’s girls, coached by Antoinette Yiberhu, started practice last week and are gearing up for a schedule that will begin at Crossroads Sept. 13.

Yiberhu has 10 players on her roster.

Miranda Roberts is a junior this season and will play middle hitter while sophomore Makayla George is at the all-around positions. Kaitlyn Smith came late in the season last year and is an outside hitter. Senior Aneyshia Boatright also returns and will be at hitter and other positions. Bernice Clouthier, a junior, is back as a passer and back row player. She was a setter last season but Yiberhu expects to use her at other spots this year.

“We have some newbies on the team with not much experience,” Yiberhu said. “We’re building skills for them. Our returning players have all the foundational skills. It’s tweaking and getting them back to practice. Most of the high school girls were at a college program when we had summer camp, so they missed camp. They need to get in shape and get the ball rolling.

“We have better numbers than the last few years. That’s a good start. We can put girls in positions and move them around.”
