Baldwin track teams begin workouts for spring season

BALDWIN — The snow is all but gone and spring sports athletes are beginning to start their seasons.

That includes the Panther track teams, both varsity and middle school, who are indoors.

Theresa Lewis is coaching the middle school team, which was working out this week. Bob Watkins is among the high school coaches.

Lewis said she had 12 athletes on the middle school level indicate they’ll be competing. The first meet is tentatively scheduled for April 20. Practices started earlier this week. She added the high school team has recently gotten under way with its practice schedule.

Spring break for Baldwin student-athletes starts Friday and ends April 5.

“I got them down to the track today and let them (work out),” she said.

Workouts will resume the week of April 6.

Lewis said there will be meets during the season at locations such as Brethren, Mason County Eastern, Onekama and Muskegon Heights.

The middle school team consists of seventh- and eighth-graders.

“I know I have some shot putters and a couple of sprinters,” Lewis said. “We want to get some relay teams together.”

The high school team will be competing in the West Michigan D League.
