BALDWIN — Bob Watkins and Scott Pedigo are coaching Baldwin boys and girls track teams, who started their practices this week in the Panther gymnasium.

“With the intersession and spring break (a three-week overall period), today was our first day,” Watkins said on Monday.

Junior Jenna Johnson is one of the key girls back on the team. She was eighth in the state in 2018 in the 100-meter dash.

“This year she’s a little older and a little stronger,” Watkins said. “By playing other sports, she’s building muscles she doesn’t even realize. With the fast breaks I saw her do in basketball (on the JV boys team), she out-ran some of the guys.”

Mariah Sowle will be in the shot put and discus for the Panthers and might be in one of the relays.

Watkins was expecting to see more track athletes out later in the week.

Baldwin will be participating in West Michigan D League jamborees on April 17 at Marion, on April 24 at Mason County Eastern and on May 1 at Brethren.

The conference meet is on May 8 at Crossroads Charter Academy. The regionals will be on May 17 at a site to be determined. Regional athletes will work to qualify for the state finals on June 1.

Baldwin also have a middle school track team which will compete in league jamborees at Crossroads on April 15, at Marion on April 22 and at Mason County Eastern on April 29.
