Baldwin track coach recalls championship exploits of Juson Johnson

BALDWIN - Bob Watkins has 40 years of track coaching at Baldwin and has coached many unique athletes including state champions.

He recalls Juson Johnson, the most recent state champion. He was the state champ in the 100-meter four times and the 200 three years in Class D. Johnson was also an excellent long jumper.

His daughter, Jenna Johnson, was an all-state jumper at Baldwin.

Johnson also had two brothers, Juron and Juvon, who were excellent athletes.

"For Juson, it was all natural," Watkins said. "We tried to give him some pointers. As freshman, he was blowing people out of the water. Kenny Coleman won in the high jump and pole vault. He may have been after Juson."
