Baldwin sportsman seeing plenty of bears while fishing
BALDWIN - Baldwin's Jim Warren has been seeing a lot of wildlife, especially bears.
It's all about life in Lake County.
"You just can't believe the bears around here now," Warren said. "We've got bears all over. There's a momma and the three (cubs) who come here all the time. I have them on my trail cam. In this area right here, I've seen probably eight bears within a two-mile radius. They need to put in a few bear permits or people who get a bear permit should be asked if they can hunt some around here.
"Towards the river, there's one who turned the dumpster over. He's a big bear. There's a momma with two small cubs, about the size of cocker spaniels, running through here.
"There's some big ones."
Fishing is a way of life for Warren and his grandson, Tyler Clugston.
"We're doing great on bluegills," Warren said. "We got some beautiful bluegills the other day. We want to go to a lake south of here and tried for some bluegills there. It's a private lake over there. We catch a few and then leave.
"There's quite a few deer. We're starting to do our food plots. I think we've done it at the right time. It's turning really nice and green."
As for turkeys, "all I'm seeing now is hens. There's three different ones I know are at the same spot all the time. (Friday morning) early in the morning we fished for bluegills and in the evening went to another lake and fished for bluegills. On Tuesday morning, we got 44 nice bluegills. A couple of them I caught in the boat are close to 12 inches. We maybe would have gotten some more but I ran out of crickets."
