Baldwin softball team eager to open its season

BALDWIN — One of these days, the Baldwin Panthers are going to get their season opener in the books.

But coach Bob Hilts and his girls are ready any time.

A scheduled home twinbill with Muskegon Heights last Wednesday was rained out. The Panthers were then scheduled for a West D League doubleheader at Walkerville on Monday. But Hilts said no umpires showed up so a scrimmage took place instead.

“I thought we looked pretty good,” Hilts said.

Baldwin is scheduled to play at Brethren on Thursday. No other makeups have yet been announced.

“We’re doing all right,” Hilts said. “We’re surprisingly doing OK. The girls don’t seem to be no worse for the wear. We’re not doing too bad.”

Ashley Roy and Alexi Defrece both pitched during scrimmage.

“They both did rather well,” Hilts said.
