BALDWIN — Veteran Baldwin softball coach Bob Hilts was at the elementary school gym last week, getting his team ready for a schedule that starts this month.

Spring break started Friday and the team returns to practices on Monday.

The first day of practice was March 9. Hilts has 14 on his roster.

“We’re down, but I think we’ll have more by the end of the season,” Hilts said. “We have an early game. We have a full schedule this year, which is better. We had a minimal amount of games last year.

“We have a  lot of young girls, but we’re coming right along. We have some seasoned girls coming back. Makayla (George) is throwing better. We have Riley (Drilling) who is throwing well as a first-year pitcher. We have the Wroblewski twins (Marlena and Marissa). They’re both throwing better.”

Hilts is encouraged with his team’s progress.

“We’re hoping to make improvements, compete with some of these guys and hopefully win some games,” Hilts said.

Baldwin was scheduled to start outdoor practices earlier this week. The schedule has not been officially announced but the Panthers return from spring break Monday and are scheduled to play later next week.
