BALDWIN – Baldwin senior Derek Mock has been anxiously waiting for basketball and bowling for two months ever since winter sports were shut down in November.

Mock was at Saturday’s first day of basketball practices.

“It went good today, actually,” Mock said. “We came together, trying to get our rhythm back.”

It’s Mock’s second year on the varsity. He had two years on the junior varsity.

“It went well last year,” Mock said. “We made improvement.”

Mock is a shooting guard and small forward, similar to last year.

Mock admitted it was tough to get in some work during the shutdown with gyms being closed and the area enduring rainy and snowy weather.

The season will start on Feb. 5. Contact practices can’t start until Feb. 1.

“We got a lot of work done today,” Mock said on Saturday. “We did a lot of ball handling and passing.”

He anticipates having a strong team.

“We’ll have a lot of team work, quickness, dedication and hard work,” Mock said.

He will also be on the bowling team for the second year.

“It went well last year,” Mock said.
