BALDWIN — Jesse Pancio, is a freshman quarterback for Baldwin’s football team, and found himself in the starter’s role.

But despite the 71-0 loss to Camden-Frontier on Saturday, Pancio is ready to lead the Panthers to what he hopes will be a home victory on Friday against Bear Lake.

Pancio was quarterback for Baldwin’s junior high football team as an eighth grader. Ryan Kolenbrander was set to lead the Panthers as a senior but has to sit out the season after going through shoulder surgery.

This situation put Pancio in the No. 1 spot.

“There’s pressure, but I’m fine,” he said. “I’m more of a rollout (quarterback). I can get (the pass) down the field.”

Against Bear Lake, “we’re working on getting the plays down and getting them sharp.”

The step from junior high to varsity is a huge one but Pancio seems to be adjusting well. He’s a cornerback on defense.

“I have good ball vision,” he said.
