BALDWIN -- Baldwin is again looking for a new athletic director.

Superintendent Rick Heitmeyer confirmed this earlier this week. In one email to The Star, Heitmeyer said "I'm the AD again. In another mail, he indicated the search is on again. "We are looking," he said.

There was no comment on Todd Geerlings, who in early September had started his role as the new Baldwin athletic director.

Geerlings, who was also to be a math teacher in the district, replaced Scott Pedigo, who had the part-time position for a year.

Geerlings started his new duties prior to Labor Day weekend.

Indication are Geerlings' tenure ended a few weeks later.

"I'm retired after 32 years in education," he said after taking the job. "I taught and coached for eight years at the high school level for Muskegon Catholic, Grant and West Ottawa. I coached football, track and softball. I was principal at Fruitport and East Kentwood and superintendent at Mona Shores and Hastings."

Geerlings was retired but a Baldwin math teacher's opening came up.

"Math teachers are in high demand right now," he said. "I was a math teacher. The state allows us to come back as math teachers because of that shortage."

Geerlings said he didn't know about the ADs job when he applied at Baldwin. He has an AD's background and has been a register and MHSAA official and still works games. He worked college basketball and football games. In 2005, he started a 12-year career as a Big 10 official.

Pedigo was AD from July 2018 to June 2019, replacing Shawn Williams, who left when the role went from full-time to part-time. Pedigo is still a teacher at the district but left as AD in June when his contract was not renewed.
