Baldwin lineman expecting huge season
BALDWIN — Volleyball practices started on Aug. 8, two days after Baldwin school classes began, and coach Duane Roberts likes the progress his program is making.
“Practices the first few weeks are pretty good especially with school starting,” he said. “My middle school program will be starting the next week or so. I’m looking for enough girls to split into two teams (varsity and JV). I’m also looking for a JV coach.”
If a few more players come to practices, Roberts said he’ll be able to have two teams. He has 15 players and is looking have a few more.
Players back from last year for the varsity include Jazlyn Johnson and her sister Jenna Johnson, plus Tania Hill, Mariah Sowle and JV players from last year such as Monique Rowland and Jennika Cook.
Practices started on Aug. 8. The first match is Sept. 6 at Marion.
“I’m hoping for the win that day since it’d be the best birthday gift ever for me,” Roberts said.
The first home match is on Sept. 13 with Manistee Catholic Central.
